NEW IN: Egypt’s Mamzi Bows Down to a Delicate New Trend

From their logo to their latest collection, the bow is central to the Egyptian label’s identity and branding.

Since its inception in 2014, the bow has been pivotal to Egyptian label Mamzi's identity, serving as their emblem and a symbol of femininity with an edge.

Their anniversary collection, aptly titled "The Bow," draws inspiration from the romantic tradition of 18th-century lovelocks - long braids tied with ribbons or bows as silent declarations of affection. Mamzi reimagines this with half-bows, a sentiment echoed throughout the collection. "Two half-bows come together to complete each other and form a perfect whole," Mariam Abdelghany, the founder and creative director, tells Scene Styled.

Mamzi's bows take centre stage with oversized structures, dramatic silhouettes, and their signature touch of asymmetry. One standout piece is a classic white dress updated with multi-coloured, oversized bows tied up its length. Another highlight is a butter yellow co-ord set, featuring a halter top with a delicate bow detail and a skirt adorned with tiny bows.

While bows are trending on international runways and brands like Oscar De La Renta and Valentino, and in street styles worn by celebrities like Kendall Jenner and Sarah Jessica Parker, Abdelghany draws inspiration from their rich history. From adorning the extravagant gowns of 18th-century French royalty, like those of Queen Marie Antoinette, to Roman senators using bows on their sandals as a mark of social class, Mamzi celebrates the bow's ability to transcend gender and time. The label not only echoes contemporary trends like cottagecore and coquette aesthetics but also revitalises the past in their collection.
