An oversized vibrant green blazer with a giant bow tie - Samir Ghanem knew how to do it..

An oversized vibrant green blazer with a giant black bow tie, Fatouta’s signature suit made by Egyptian costume designer Widad Attia, has traversed across the Arab region, capturing many hearts along the way. Portrayed by late veteran comedian, singer and entertainer Samir Ghanem, Fatouta’s cartoonish character made its first appearance in a 1982 Fawazeer Ramadan series.

Introduced by Egyptian director Fahmy Abdel Hamid, the suit was inspired by Abdel Hamid’s son dressing up in funny-looking oversized outfits. The Fatouta Suit initially appeared in black, before becoming the iconic green one we now cherish. With his playful eccentric style, satirical performances and innate sense of humour, Fatouta’s presence spread light-hearted laughter and joy to almost every Egyptian household.
