SELECTS: Egypt's Jayda Mansour Styles Her Day from AM to PM
From morning coffee to late-night plans, rising Egyptian actress Jayda Mansour styles her day from AM to PM, mixing comfort with a playful, personal twist.
Jayda Mansour keeps her style honest, grounded and instinctive. The Egyptian actress, who was born and raised in Alexandria, has steadily built a career across film and television, appearing in productions including Leh Laa 3, Teta Zuzu, Athena, La Torad Wa La Tostabdal and Zeina Ashraf Abdel Baki’s Meen Yasadaq. The latter premiered at the 45th Cairo International Film Festival before finding a wider audience on Shahid. Most recently, Mansour joined the cast of Under Age, an upcoming Gen Z-focused drama set to stream on Shahid. Her route to acting, however, was far from direct. Before moving into screen work, she studied media and translation, trained through acting workshops, performed improv with Irtigalia and taught acting to children and teenagers.
“I usually start from comfort, but I still want it to look cute,” Mansour says. “I begin with something very basic, then I build the outfit through accessories. For me, the outfit really comes together through accessorising.”
Mansour’s style is rooted in ease where she usually gravitates towards a simple shade then disrupts it with colour, texture or statement jewellery. “I usually go for black because it’s my comfort zone, but it always needs a hint of colour,” she tells SceneStyled. Brands, for her, come second. “I don’t really focus on brand names, the most important thing is that it looks good and works with the outfit.”
Across the full day she styled for this week’s Styled Selects, that focus on personal meaning becomes clear. “I wear pieces that are storied, like my grandmother’s trousers that she wore at my age and I take care of now, or something customised and one-of-one that reflects my personality and where I’m at — like my Bonjour Soleil sweatshirt, which my friend customised for me with hand-embroidered waves for Alexandria.”
Alexandria is often a reference point for Mansour. She is also currently developing Masteeka, a handmade beaded accessories brand named after the Alexandrian word for gum - a cultural marker with its very own attitude. True Alexandrians would rather lose the gum than call it leban.
