Monochrome Monday: The Classic Blue Edition

This monday, we’re feeling blue, and it doesn’t get better…

Ziyad El-Helbawy

Regal and refined, Classic Blue evokes feelings of steadfast trust and dependability. While the shade of blue might have been the Pantone colour of the year for 2020, - and uhm, we’ve all borne witness to the events of 2020 - the timeless hue remains well-rested within our good graces.

Throughout history, this composed navy blue-based hue has provided a backdrop of calm assurance. In the late 19th century, Classic Blue made its mark in fashion, gracing fine tailored suits and dresses worn by the European aristocracy. It symbolised authority and prestige, ultimately becoming a signature shade for power suits and professional uniforms.

Timeless in essence, Classic Blue effortlessly blends into versatile colour palettes. From statement T-shirts to dazzling gowns, this week we've curated some of our favourite contemporary Classic Blue pieces from designers across the region.

Oumaäti

The Kaïd in Blue

Minimal and symmetrical, Moroccan accessory label Oumaaäti’s ‘Kaïd in Blue’ is a true wardrobe leader.

Karen Wazen

The ‘Luna’ Frames

Blooming with ‘urban style’ as the Lebanese designer notes, Karen Wazen’s ‘Luna’ frames provide the perfect blue accessory to match your monochromatic fit.

Zaid Farouki

The ‘Uncaged’ Collection

Featuring an excerpt from the “I Am Sharqi” poem - a collaboration between the Palestinian designer and poet Fatima Alsaad, Farouki’s ‘Uncaged’ collection pays tribute to Arab heritage.

Salim Azzam

The SS24 Collection

Long-sleeved denim blazers and hand-sewn appliques punctuate the collection as it draws on the Lebanese scenery that continuously inspires Salim Azzam. Blending blue hues, the ‘Ring Master’ collection toys with feminine authority, employing arched silhouettes contrasting soft and billowy embroidery.

Lama Jouni

The Series 6 Collection

Simple and figure-hugging, Lama Jouni’s ‘Series 6’ collection has been a consistent and welcome guest on our Monochrome Mondays, and looking at this dress, it’s easy to deduce why.

Mrs. Keepa

The Blue Moon Dress

Featuring a circular neckline, waist, and cuts, Mrs. Keepa’s blue moon dress not only shines as its name suggests, but looks every bit the celestial part.

Zyne

The Tory 75

Rich in both hue and comfort, Zyne’s Tory paints the town blue (Doja reference intended).

Jude Benhalim

The Nightfall Earrings

As fluid as flowing ocean waves, Jude Benhalim’s ‘Nightfall’ earrings stun in gold accentuated by blue stones.

Maison Sara Chraibi

The Blue Caped Dress

‘Caged, capes, and sacred,’ Moroccan designer Sara Chraibi’s blue caped dress looks like it came straight out of the set of Dune, and we’re obsessed.
