Egyptian Stylist Mariam El Sherfi Styles Her Vintage Archive

Egyptian stylist Mariam Elsherif opens her personal vintage archive, pairing vintage classics for fashion editorial Scorched Breeze.

Egyptian Stylist, Mariam Elsherif, when she thinks of her style she thinks about archives. Not just as a buzzword, but as a life’s work: a wardrobe built deliberately, piece by piece, across cities, continents and eras.

She has been building her vintage wardrobe for years, hunting down pieces in Parisian consignment stores, online auctions and trusted resale platforms, taking the time to authenticate every stitch, date code and hardware detail herself. She avoids trends and fast fashion, preferring garments that feel like stories rather than stock. Many come from her mother’s closet: bespoke dresses, one-of-a-kind coats and vintage jewellery designed at the family dining table, a quiet lineage of women who never dressed by consensus.

Scorched Breeze is where that private archive finally steps fully into frame. Conceived with photographer and longtime friend Salma Adel, the editorial is a dialogue between French and Italian heritage fashion and Cairo’s modern corners. Shot entirely with pieces from Mariam’s own wardrobe – YSL stripes, vintage Hermès, Rabanne shimmer, Margiela and Louboutin – the project refuses the usual Egyptian clichés. “We chose to have it in the modern side of Cairo. We kind of wanted to step away from pyramids and sand and show there’s so much more you can do.” Instead, it stages four looks across unexpected corners of the city’s newer landscapes, letting concrete, glass and elevator chrome become backdrops for the clothes.
