Arab-Dutch Model Imaan Hammam Launches Umm Kulthoum-Inspired Shades

Replicating the legendary singer’s signature shades is a feat for the brave. Punctuating every performance Umm Kalthoum has soulfully provided, the black cat-eye frames serve as an emblem for Egypt’s musical history. Solidifying that sentiment is Egyptian-Morrocan-Dutch supermodel Imaan Hamman, who collaborated with French eyewear brand Port Tanger on a two-piece collection.

Hamman posits two pivotal figures as her sources of inspiration, actualising her love and admiration for her mother and Umm Kalthoum alike. The ‘Umm’ cat-eye frame and the 70’s style ‘M’Barka’ (translating to ‘congratulations’) frame both pay homage to the female powerhouses that shaped Hammam’s upbringing.
