Ziyad Buainain Brings Eco-Conciousness to Luxury Eveningwear

"Fashion to me means expressing yourself and being thoughtful with what you put on."

Ziyad Buainain’s designs are rooted in a life lived between cultures. Silhouettes are shaped by contrasts, tradition, and daring experimentation. Each piece he curates is made from intentionally-chosen materials, recycled or deadstock, following his motive to remain eco-conscious and lessen the waste in our world.

The London-based luxury designer’s approach behind his eponymous evening wear label combines elegance with responsibility, crafting garments that can be worn, styled, and transformed time and again, following that same philosophy.“Fashion to me means expressing yourself and being thoughtful with what you put on…and what you want to say and what you believe in,” he tells SceneStyled. “Each collection is inspired by a mix of visual inspiration and personal experience, or a message or a story that I kind of want to tell, there’s always a message of hope in them.”

Born in Saudi Arabia and raised in Tokyo, sartorial creativity was instilled in Buainain’s veins from a young age. He would go on buying trips to stock with his mother to stock a multi‑brand boutique she owned in Al Khobar in Saudi Arabia, bringing in names such as Vivienne Westwood and Galliano during a time where that wasn’t the norm for fashion in the Kingdom.“They were things that were not as traditional for people to dress in back in the day, but she did have customers,” he explains. “The kind of edgy, cool, customers. It was really unconventional stuff for the time…that kind of sparked my interest in fashion really.”

His search for the unconventional didn’t stop there, later combining the mentality with his evening wear brand. Buainain looks for ways to challenge the status quo of statement pieces by tastefully giving them dual purpose.
“When I design these pieces, I try to always incorporate an element of interchangeability within the dresses to encourage more wears,” he says. By incorporating buttons and different fastenings on dresses, his formal gowns turn into casual dresses.

“I want to try to change that mindset of only wearing the piece once,” Buainain explains to SceneStyled. It goes into the eco-consciousness of the brand.
