SELECTS: A Retro Rewind with Egyptian Artist ‘MarceloMarc’

He said vintage, we said obsessed.

Mai El Mokadem

If you’ve ever spotted a cropped shirt, cowboy boots, and vintage curls zooming past the streets of Cairo on a Jawa motorbike—chances are you’ve just had a run-in with Mahmoud Ahmed Mohamed. The 26-year-old Egyptian artist, who goes by MarceloMarc on socials, is a model, actor, and content creator who sees fashion as more than clothes. “It’s art,” he tells SceneStyled. “It’s not easy to have your own style. It takes courage to wear what you love and make your mark, especially when you’re not famous or well-known.”

Once a football player, he ditched the pitch for panache. “I was always drawn to vintage style, strange colours and unusual styling. I didn’t even care about pictures at first—until I realised I had to build a portfolio. Then people started noticing, and the rest just happened.”

His signature look? “Tall hair. Cropped shirt. Charleston trousers. Cowboy boots. Jawa motorbike.” He draws from his favourite brands; the grunge and structure of Rick Owens, the attitude of Chrome Hearts, the tailored edge of YSL and Burberry, the glamour of Cartier, and the workwear ease of Carhartt and Levi’s— but remixes them through his own lens. “Some time after I began shooting, I naturally gravitated towards creating videos with a vintage feel. It became a space where I could experiment with archival-inspired looks and nostalgic soundtracks.”

With a new trap track dedicated to his beloved Jawa, an emotional short film on the horizon, and a thrift shop in the works, the model is busy. But his style? Always on. “What I wear reflects my mood. Dark leather when I’m feeling intense, colour when I want to connect,” he says. “I want young people to feel like they can wear what they want, walk down the street, and not care what anyone thinks.”

Look One | The Wild Wild West El Balad

A vintage fever dream in sepia tone, this look channels outlaw energy with a Cairo twist— cowboy boots, tall hair, an unbuttoned floral shirt, and a Jawa motorbike parked like it owns the street. “I chose this look because it’s comfortable—and let’s just say, perfect for fixing up the motorbike.” A Spiro Spathis bottle in hand, a Rolls Royce wrench on standby, and Chrome Hearts glinting in the sun. If you blinked, you’d think this was shot in ’70s Texas— not downtown Cairo.

Look Two | The Godfather Rides Jawa

“This look was inspired by ‘60s cinema and mafia films, like Goodfellas and Casino,” he says. “I just really love heels, which is why I threw on a pair with this look.” From the wide lapel to the vintage stripes, this power suit moment is equal parts Cairo and cinema. Styled with caramel-toned boots and chunky gold jewellery, the look is topped off with his go-to Jawa motorbike, revving straight from 1985. “The motorcycle is always with me—I’m ready to pull up and make an entrance anywhere.”

Look Three | The Balad’s Bandit

A sepia-drenched silhouette straight out of a spaghetti western—if that western was shot on the outskirts of Maadi and styled by a vintage-obsessed cowboy artist. “I think this was my favourite outfit—probably the most ‘brown’ outfit I’ve ever worn. I’ve been really into brown lately, maybe it’s just a colour phase, but I loved how this look came together.” With flared espresso cords, a distressed leather jacket, and boots that have seen more than one Cairo alley, this look says ‘don’t follow me—I’m lost too’. Add in a flick of the Stussy lighter and a bandana knotted just right, and the desert outlaw fantasy is complete. “I had to go with the Harley Davidson pair—they’re just the most comfortable shoes for this kind of outfit.”

A full-black fit made for the type of guy who rolls his own cigarettes, knows where the best koshary in town is, and has way too much Chrome Hearts for someone who hangs out in stairwells. “For me, of course, my favourite brand is Chrome Hearts—so I feel like matching the outfit with Chrome Hearts accessories just makes it all come together,” he tells SceneStyled. A downtown cowboy gone noir; complete with a vest straight out of an old western, grills that glint with menace, and a belt buckle that could knock someone out cold. “I’m a huge fan of cowboy boots– they just give outfits a certain oomph.”

Look Five | Spinning Records & Side-Eyeing Your Taste

When you walk into a record store looking like this, the vinyl picks you. He’s in a mustard shirt unbuttoned just enough, a turquoise ring sparkling under fluorescent light, and yellow-tinted sunnies that say ‘I’m judging your taste—but in a sexy way’. “From the colour palette—mustard yellow, denim blues, and the vest—to the record player in the background, this look captures and revives the 70s era,” he explains. It’s retro, rakish, and ready for a late-night boogie in boots. “This could totally be the go-to look for a ’70s house party. It’s the kind of outfit someone would’ve owned back then—playful, nostalgic, and made for dancing.”
