NEW IN: 3D Printed Egyptian Label ‘Mesh—Mesh’ Debuts With ‘Alhambra’
Inspired by Islamic architecture, two sisters have ‘meshed’ their talents together to bring forth luxury 3D printed bags.
Two sisters, one bold idea, and an ancient architectural muse—Mesh—Mesh, Egypt’s latest 3D printed accessories label, is here to reinvent the luxury fashion wheel with its debut collection, 'Alhambra'. Founded by sisters Fatma and Shaimaa El Alawy, this nascent Egyptian label, founded in August 2024, merges architectural tradition and technological modernity in a way both instantly recognisable, yet wholly new.
“We’re meshing together Islamic architecture with 3D printing. Bringing the old with the new,” Mesh—Mesh Co-Founder and Chief Marketing Officer Fatma El Alawy tells SceneStyled. The concept started with Fatma’s sister, Shaimaa, an architect, wanting to create something that would reflect her love for design. One day, she pitched the idea to her sister Fatma: "I have a crazy idea, and I think we should do it." With Shaimaa's passion for architecture and Fatma's marketing expertise, they were perfectly positioned to bring their vision to life. The result? Mesh—Mesh’s debut collection.
The 'Alhambra' collection takes inspiration from the palace of the same name in Spain's Granada. “We visited the palace and were captivated by its beauty. We knew we had to pay tribute to it somehow,” Fatma shares. The bags reimagine the iconic geometrical patterns of the Alhambra’s muqarnas—a honeycomb-like decoration that adorns the palace’s vaulted ceilings—into wearable art. “The collection takes you through the Alhambra palace; the ‘muqarnas,’ the waves, and the overall feel are just a miniature replica of the palace’s grandeur,” El Alawy adds.
Each bag is crafted from high-quality transparent resin, 3D printed one layer at a time, bringing intricate designs to life that couldn’t be achieved through traditional methods. Available in a range of captivating colours—from aqua to pearl to acid yellow—the Alhambra bags play with light and shadow, perfectly capturing Mesh—Mesh’s ethos: “Heritage, Tech, Personality.”
The name Mesh—Mesh is a playful reference, a nod to the Egyptian phrase ‘Fel Mesh—Mesh’ while incorporating the ‘Mesh’ of 3D printing, reflecting the brand’s pursuit of imaginative creations that explore new fields in fashion, particularly in an Egyptian context.
