Proudly homegrown jewellery label, Azza Fahmy, has designed a unique bustier for their collaboration with French luxury fashion house Balmain’s Pre-Spring 2023 collection, paying homage to ancient Egypt with its dazzling design.

For decades, Azza Fahmy has been a household name in Egypt, a jewellery brand that not only presents delicately crafted innovative pieces, but only draws inspiration from the 7,000 years of Egyptian history, culture, and art. Dedicated to reminding the world of the beauty of Egyptian culture, Azza Fahmy has always sought to push the boundaries of what is deemed ‘possible’ for a homegrown brand by breaking into global markets with a tenacity that can only belong to the daughters of Isis.

Which is fitting, considering that the intricately-designed bustier is reminiscent of a golden Ptolemaic plaque, sculpted in the shape of the Eye of Horus, another child of Isis. The top features a lotus element that represents the sun, rebirth, and creation, while the back of the bustier is much more complex. With hand-pierced wings outstretched across both sides, alluding to the protective wings of the goddess Nekhbe, six Shen rings pulling the wings together to symbolise eternity and protection, and a chain with a scarab adorning the back, representing creation, renewal, and rebirth, the piece is a testament to fashion as performance art.
