This Ring Captures the Moment a Shoe Flew at George W. Bush
Frantic Studio immortalises Muntadhar al-Zaidi’s 2008 protest in silver, turning the infamous shoe throw into a statement piece.
Frantic Studio has released a silver ring referencing the 2008 incident in which Iraqi journalist Muntadhar al-Zaidi threw his shoes at then–U.S. President George W. Bush during a press conference in Baghdad.
The Germany-based label, known for conceptual jewellery produced in-house, has rendered the moment as a sculptural piece, depicting the instant a shoe is mid-flight. The design draws on an event that circulated widely at the time and came to symbolise opposition to U.S. involvement in Iraq.
The incident took place on December 14, 2008, when al-Zaidi threw both shoes at Bush, describing the act as a protest. Bush avoided the shoes and was not injured.
The ring will be released as part of Frantic Studio’s upcoming collection, Dying of Thirst, scheduled to launch on April 3rd.
