SELECTS: Egyptian Actress Jala Hesham's Day-to-Day Wardrobe

For this edition of SELECTS, Hesham breaks down three looks created for a day in the life of an actress.

Kaja Grujic

Egyptian actress Jala Hesham has become a familiar face in contemporary Egyptian television, known for starring in Ramadan dramas and modern social series with ease. Her breakout year came in 2021, when she appeared across three Ramadan shows, before going on to build a screen presence through projects including Khally Balak Men Zizi, Mousa, Ibn El Nady, and, most recently, TV series Midterm.

Off screen, Hesham’s relationship with style is more instinctive than performative. After spending so much time stepping into other characters, she prefers to keep her personal wardrobe separate from the roles she plays—sometimes even changing her hair to create that distance.
For this edition of SELECTS, Hesham breaks down three looks created for a day in the life of an actress, tracing how fashion moves with her from calm mornings to long working hours and the moments in between.

Q: As an actress, you spend a lot of time stepping into different characters. How does that influence the way you approach your own personal style off screen?

As an actress, stepping into different characters naturally makes me very detail-oriented when it comes to styling. I pay close attention to how every element reflects the essence of the character, always working closely with incredibly talented stylists. However, in my personal life, I intentionally separate myself from those roles. I like to look completely different from the characters I play — even changing my hairstyle — because seeing similarities can feel confusing in a funny way.

Q: What was your entry point into fashion, and was there a moment early on when you began to see style as part of how you express yourself beyond acting?

Like most girls, my relationship with fashion started very early, before I was even fully aware of it. I remember trying on my mom’s dresses, scarves, makeup, and heels — creating little looks and stories. That’s where fashion became a form of expression for me, closely tied to my love for acting. Until today, I still dress based on how I feel — whether I’m calm, tired, or energetic — my outfit always reflects that emotion.

Q: How would you describe your personal style in three words, and how has it changed as you’ve grown more confident in yourself and your career?

Over time, my style became more refined and intentional. As I grew more confident in myself and my career, I started embracing simplicity more, understanding that elegance doesn’t need to be complicated.

Q: Are there certain pieces, silhouettes, or details you always return to, no matter the season or trend cycle, that feel most like you?

I always go back to clean silhouettes and pieces that feel effortless. Soft fabrics, neutral tones, and anything that feels natural and comfortable. I think what defines my style most is that it never feels forced — it always feels like me.
