F/W’25 Trend Predictions with Egyptian Fashion Director Rana Rabie

For this Scene Selects, we couldn’t have gone to anyone besides aesthetic and trend connoisseur Rana Rabie.

Mai El Mokadem

Rana Rabie, an Egyptian visual designer and fashion curator, based in Dubai, calls herself a hyperpop devotee with a soft spot for Arabic nostalgia—"a forward-thinking Aquarius," as she’d say. Her work navigates styling, creative direction, and visual media, shaped by her studies at the Dubai Institute of Design & Innovation, where she focused on Fashion and Multimedia Design.

What began as late-night quarantine experiments—dressing up as various characters and editing her own video clips—soon evolved into a sharp eye for the interplay of fashion and technology. Long afternoons spent studying at Dubai Design District helped hone her instincts. Rabie’s passion for storytelling through fashion became her gateway into the world of fashion marketing and PR, working with names like Diesel Arabia, Scotch & Soda, and Longchamp.

Her range doesn’t stop there. As a freelance stylist and visual designer, Rabie has worked with Egyptian rapper Abuyusif, styling him for his Red Bull ‘Mat El Kalam’ rap battle, and has been involved in merch styling for Marwan Moussa. Her experience also extends to assisting on Harvey Nichols’ SS’24 campaign and styling test shoots for MMG Models in Dubai, while lending creative direction to Egyptian brands like Ohanna and Bauhaus.

"I’ve got something big coming soon with Rarabiena," she teases, hinting at a future project without giving too much away.

For Scene Selects, we tapped into Rabie’s knowledge of silhouettes, fabrics, and shifting trends, asking her to predict what’s next for the coming season.

1) Playfulness

Hermes - Mini Bolide 1923 Bag on Wheels

Longchamp - Dumbbell Sling Bag

According to Rabei, the upcoming season is set to be a vibrant homage to the radical design movement of the late 1960s. This style, often called anti-design, challenges the stereotypical format and rules of design by creating eccentric yet functional pieces. “It’s everything design doesn’t stand for - as bizarre as they are creative,” Rabei adds.

2) Indie Sleaze

Isabel Marant - Bekett Sneakers

“The 2010s are back, and they're messier than ever.” The Indie Sleaze aesthetic is making a bold comeback, along with the chaotic charm of the early 2010s. “Think Pretty Little Liars, think Ke$ha at her glittery, unapologetic peak, think Miley Cyrus in her Party in the USA era,” Rabei tells Scene Styled. “It’s all about the intentionally messy, effortlessly cool vibe that defined a generation.”

This is all about returning to a time when fashion was about self-expression without the filters. “This aesthetic embraces the "I just threw this on" look, but with an edge—messy hair, smudged eyeliner, and a rebellious attitude that screams freedom and fun.”

3) Purple

Jean Paul Gaultier - "The Cyber" Turtleneck

Henrik Vibksov - Fall/Winter 2022

From violet to lilac and amethyst, purple is the colour to watch. From head-to-toe monochromatic looks to bold accents, purple is set to dominate the fashion scene next season. “It’s going to be the new red in this next season.”

4) The Scene

Converse | The Knee High Converse

Balenciaga | City Bag

Born from the gritty hardcore scene in the USA, 'the Scene’ subculture exploded in popularity during the mid-to-late 2000s, characterised by its bold fashion and energetic music. While the subculture experienced a lull after 2013, a resurgence dubbed ‘The Roaring 20s’ revitalised it in 2020.

Today, the Scene is making waves again. Once overlooked, the Scene aesthetic is now capturing mainstream attention, thanks in part to a growing TikTok presence. “The Scene subculture has always been looked down upon, but now being different is the new cool.”

5) Polka Mania

Amir Salama

Maison Margiela | Paper Houndstooth Clutch

Long overlooked, polka dots are poised for a fashion resurgence. This timeless print is finally getting its due, transitioning from underrated to everywhere. “Expect to see polka dots splashed across everything from dresses to accessories.”

6) A-Line Dresses

Adam Lippes | Spring 2023 Ready-To-Wear

Cecilie Bahnsen | Lisbeth Dress Stria Matelassséle

“A-line dresses are set to become the sought-after silhouette of the season.” Flattering and versatile, these dresses are perfect for every occasion. Whether dressed up or down, they exude effortless style and elegance, a timeless piece and essential for any wardrobe.
