Egyptian-French Label Fatale by Angie Unveils Peacock-Inspired Capsule
Striking a balance between artistry and wearability is no easy feat, but Salah’s collection does so with grace.
Egyptian fashion designer Angie Salah is no stranger to blending worlds. Born in France with Egyptian roots and now based in Cairo, her designs carry an effortless Parisian elegance. However, it’s her latest capsule collection, the Peacock Collection, that truly showcases her range as a designer.
The Muse:
Salah’s starting point was the peacock feather. “The intricate patterns, vibrant colors, and iridescent sheen of these feathers ignited my imagination,” she reveals. “But what moved me more deeply was their symbolism—renewal, grace, transformation. That became the heart of the collection.”
Salah experimented with gradient dyes to mimic the iridescence of the feathers. Beads, sequins, and pearls were sewn by hand, layering texture and depth into every design. “We employed intricate hand embroidery to mirror the delicate eye patterns of peacock feathers,” Salah explains.
The Collection Dissected:
Striking a balance between artistry and wearability is no easy feat, but Salah’s collection does so with grace. Classic silhouettes like column and sheath dresses are given new life with bold asymmetrical cuts and vibrant, painterly hues.
Salah’s creative process began with close observation of peacock feathers—their intricate patterns, iridescent hues, and the way light dances on their surface. She sketched these details, translating their organic shapes into silhouettes that flatter the female form, carefully considering the proportions of each piece.
All hand-sewn beadwork employed a variety of stitches and techniques—such as satin stitch, chain stitch, French knot, and seed stitch—incorporating beads, gold threads, and sequins or strass. “Hand embroidery is the heart and soul of the Peacock Collection,” she reveals. “The process was painstaking, but that’s the essence of couture—time, care, and detail.”
The Collection in Three Words:
“Opulent, intricate, timeless,” Salah shares.
The Designs Through Angie Salah’s Lens:
“This collection is a balance between modern innovation in design and timeless elegance,” Salah explains. “I drew inspiration from enduring silhouettes, such as the column and sheath dress, ensuring the designs remain relevant across generations. I employed a careful blend of classic design principles and contemporary techniques, like asymmetrical designs and bold hues.”
Where to Wear It:
These gowns are designed for life’s grandest moments. Whether it’s a mother of the bride making her entrance or a guest dazzling at a gala, Salah’s pieces are unapologetically opulent. “Red carpet premieres, galas, and charity balls are also ideal settings for these gowns,” she recommends.
How to Style It:
The Designer Suggests:
“I would recommend pairing the dresses with statement jewelry, such as a diamond necklace or chandelier earrings, and bold touches like a clutch with a metallic finish or a dramatic headpiece. Hairstyles and makeup should match the drama, whether that’s a sleek, pulled-back hairstyle, elegant updo, or a daring lip color.”
Scene Styled Suggests:
Kato | Double Pear Drop Earrings
Sabry Marouf | The Scarab
Christian Louboutin | Astrida Bride 100 Suede Pumps
The Frankie Shop | Liza Faux Fur Coat
The Collection’s Stand-Out Pieces:
“My favorite dress in the collection is the maxi asymmetrical neckline sheath dress.” This piece is dyed in a dégradé of royal cobalt blue to gradient dark forest green, designed with an asymmetrical cut neckline that adds an unconventional element to a classic sheath silhouette.
“This dress was a labor of love,” Salah explains. “Every detail was hand-stitched, from the Hungarian beads and pearls to the gold threadwork and floral patterns.”
In the Words of Angie Salah...
“The story behind the collection is one of transformation and renewal, mirroring the peacock's ability to shed its old feathers and emerge more beautiful than ever.”
The Verdict:
Fatale by Angie takes a step into new creative territory with a vintage-inspired aesthetic that still feels true to their Parisian, femme-centric ethos. This direction is captured through thoughtfully-curated set design and the inclusion of props like feathers and art deco-inspired headpieces.
